La Mercè

La Mercè is the annual festival of the city of Barcelona. It lasts for around 5 days (22-25 September) and is held in honor of Mare de Deu de la Mercè (Our Lady of the Mercy), the Patron Saint of Barcelona. It is the "Fiesta Mayor" - the main festival - of the city. The highlights of the event are the Correfoc (fire run), it consists of "colles de diables" which means 'groups of devils' chasing and dancing to the beat of drums and spewing out sparks from fireworks attached to forks, the Castellers (human towers), the Gigantes (Giants Parades).
